DOL soliciting input on proposed revisions to FMLA forms

The proposed changes to the FMLA optional use forms are intended to increase compliance, improve customer service, and improve administration of the law.

The Department of Labor is seeking public comments on proposed revisions to the optional use forms that the Wage and Hour Division provides for public use in the administration of the FMLA. The 60-day comment period ends on October 4, according to the notice published in the Federal Register August 5.

Improving administration and compliance. The proposed revisions will make the forms easier to understand for employers, leave administrators, healthcare providers, and employees seeking leave, according to the DOL. The revisions are also expected to increase compliance, improve customer service, and improve administration of the law.

More specifically, the DOL believes the proposed changes will reduce the time it takes a health care provider to provide information, and help leave administrators review and communicate information to employees more directly and clearly, thereby reducing violations.

Comments. Stakeholders may submit comments on the proposed revisions on or before October 4, 2019. Instructions for submitting comments are detailed in the DOL’s notice.
